received something in the mail about student loan consolidation and new federal loan law benefits, but no identification of who sent the mail. just a reference benefit id number. anyone know who this is? or receive something like it?
<br />Watch out for these people. They claim to work for Cash Advance America, which is a legitimate company but not through these people. They'll even tell you to go to the BBB and look them up, sure there are legitimate Cash Advance America's but THIS IS NOT ONE! They are scammers and will insist on $100 "good faith" payment prior to your loan. After that they will tell you that you have been red flagged by the Federal Trade Commission and demand another payment of $151 to remove you from the red flag. Which is another part of the scam.

called my work! said they were PC financial! about a loan! Never ever applied for one there...collection I think....
I'm providing the following info so that if others have had similar experiences, the collected information might assist in tracking down the "debt" collector woman.<br /><br />Info: On 10/28/14 - Received call in the evening from a woman, who sounded black (sorry) who spoke with me about an alleged debt of a young adult child. She refused particulars about the debt, e.g., amount, when incurred, identity of the loan maker. She represented herself as working for a "pre-litigation firm", but refused give the name of the firm or say where she was calling from. She refused to give out her phone number or her name. She demanded information about the child. She finally stated "well, I consider her served". During the conversation, she mentioned an address of a home I own, unoccupied for the past three years, and identified it to the child. Later that night she, somehow having obtained the phone number of the child, phoned the child and left the message "...you have been served. To my knowledge, the child is debt free for collection purposes. I immediately called back, using my phone caller ID, but the number led nowhere.<br /><br />My spouse, an attorney opined that given the information she seemed to have, and the threats, coupled with our involvement in a loan three years ago in Santa Cruz, that it sounded as though the woman was perpetrating a scam based on knowledge obtained from the closed loan matter.
This phone number is a mask for a 1-855 phone for a supposed debt collector
A bogus Dept of Veterans Affairs loan eligibility reduction letter sent with this as a contact number.<br />scary thing is my mortgage balance on the home + interest isn't what my current balance is. BEWARE IT'S A SCAM!
Got a call this morning. Just a recording without a name says it's a collection agency collecting a debet gives a number to call back no name of the agency no information.This is a harassing cal I want the name of the company to send a cease and desist letter.
Received a call on 10/23/14 from MWRC 951-357-4263 stating I owe $100 that is past due and will be sending to a collection agency if not paid. Supposedly sending a letter regarding same.
I received a debt collection letter in 9/2014 regarding a Navy Cash account that I never had. Navy Cash was optional and just being rolled out on my ship at the time I was ending my service requirement, so there was no point in using it. (Navy Cash is basically a pre-paid debit program: you deposit money onto a card, and use that card for products and services on board the ship and at naval bases and such. It is NOT a credit card.) To date, I have been out of the service for over 5 years with no collections or issues on my record or credit. This was the phone number given to me to call back. Before calling this number, I contacted my command's disbursing officer and was told my name was not on their list of delinquent accounts, and they had no record of me having a Navy Cash account, as expected.<br /><br />I never called the number, as I assumed it was a scam. Today, 10/22/2014, I received a phone call from a blocked number asking for me to "verify" some personal information, which I refused. I was assured the call was not a scam, and was asked to call this number (the same number as in the letter) to resolve the issue.<br /><br />I looked up the agency the claim to be, and found a couple different phone numbers as listed here:<br /><br />1-866-3NAVY-CASH (1-866-362-8922)<br />1-877-41-TOUCH (1-877-418-6824)<br />1-510-42-TOUCH (1-510-428-6824)<br /><br />I have called these numbers during their available hours, and always receive a busy tone.
Yep just called me too, wanted me to pay a OLD debt, thru money gram or I would be arrested on fraud charges, very persuasive, until I asked for who their contact was for my county, had to be today, did not want a certifed bank check, only money gram.
Collection Scam! <br />Targeting school loans or back taxes.<br />They ask you to pay right away or the police will be there in 15 minutes.
Collection caller from California Republic Bank. Or, at least that is who they say they are. The number here does not match the real CRB's number....
